Brazil is home to the largest freshwater aquarium in the world – Bioparque Pantanal

Open to the general public, starting this Tuesday (05/03/2022), the largest freshwater aquarium in the world is located in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul.

O Pantanal Biopark Space of Experience and Knowledge it is more than a tourist attraction, it is a center for Education, Research and Conservation.

With its 19 thousand square meters of area, 5 million liters of water and houses 220 neotropical species.

Among the species: 151 are from the Pantanal, 55 from the Amazon, 14 from Africa and others from Oceania, Asia and Central America.

Pantanal Biopark

According to information from the government of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the aquarium has 20 thousand species, distributed in 33 tanks. There are 23 indoor and 8 outdoor tanks.

The ultimate goal of the park is to house up to 60,000 animals.

Within the parks there is the Biodiversity Museum, with themes related to the environment.

The state’s goal, together with the Biopark, is to preserve the environment, develop tourism, work with sustainable actions and reach the state’s ultimate goal of becoming a Carbon Neutral State by 2030.

It's needed schedule through the Bioparque website to access the park.

Opening hours: from Monday to Saturday in the morning from 7:30 am to 11:30 am and in the afternoon from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm.
