Bakery that works 24 hours and is not the one in Ipiranga
Have you ever thought about arriving from a party hungry, or needing to leave at dawn to travel?!
In Torres there is a bakery that works 24 hours a day and amazingly, there is a huge variety of many goodies DELICIOUS and with very affordable prices in addition to making to order. Don't you know yet? Write it down:
- Hobere Bakery
Address: Av. Barão do Rio Branco, 764 – Centro, Torres
Best bakery in Torres
Do you want to eat at a different bakery, with products that are always fresh and delicious?
Without a doubt the bakery your bread it is the ideal place.
One of the most requested items is the chicken puff pastry with cream cheese. It really is a delight! You will also be able to place orders, eat in or pick up to go.
The only observation is that the prices are a little “snacky” 😅, but it's worth it!
Animals of Violão Lagoon
If you decide to have a mate, or take a walk around Lagoa do Violão, you might be surprised by the most curious little animals I've ever seen, the otters.
Seriously, they are adorable, it seems that they are spying on us and when we decide to stop to take a picture, they quickly leave, diving into the water.
In addition to them, there are turtles (cagatos) that love to get food from tourists, but I already anticipate it, it is prohibited and even though there are signs informing and guiding, people insist on throwing pieces of bread at them.
And yes, they show off for many photos, but they are scared when we decide to get up close.
Santa at Morro do Farol
Did you know that at the bottom of Morro do Farol, there is a Santinha? To get to it you need to be at Praia da Cal or Prainha (Praia do Meio), the seaside promenade connects the two beaches passing underneath, along the side of the hill.
Some call her Yemanjá, others Nossa Senhora Aparecida and it all depends on your religion and faith
The cool thing is that it really is a place with a lot of history, people leave plaques of thanks for the graces achieved, light candles and say prayers on the spot. Don't be surprised if someone passes by and makes the sign of the cross, it's like a "good morning".
Can you drink water from Santinha?
On this path there is a source of pure water, in the part that seems to be a hole, there is Water that comes out of the hill through a small piece of manqueira, usually has a glass for people to drink water or even give it to their animals (dogs that are passing by).
You can drink it without fear, the water comes out fresh 🙂 some even fill their own bottles and take them home, as they consider them to be blessed water.
Dom Pedro 1 has already been to Torres RS
For this one you didn't expect!
But it has two versions:
- one says that he spent the night in Torres on December 5, 1826, staying at Alfere's house (in house number 1). The purpose of his visit was to go to Uruguay to deal with a struggle for the maintenance of the colony.
- the other version is that he only passed through here, he did not stay overnight. He slept in a town on the side of Torres known today as Passo de Torres (formerly called Sesmaria dos Rodrigues).
First lighthouse of Torres – Morro do Farol
Around 1911 the first lighthouse was built in Torres, inaugurated on January 25, 1912.
It was already on top of Morro do Farol, the difference today is that lighthouse keepers lived next to the lighthouse, there were 3 houses which took care of the lighthouse, to feed its lighting system which was with kerosene.
And it has always been considered a tourist spot!
The biggest wave in Brazil is on Ilha dos Lobos
If you practice sports, and especially surf, Ilha dos Lobos was discovered by some surfers a long time ago, they discovered fascinating waves that were even dangerous for amateurs.
Gigantic waves! Over 25 feet (about 8 meters).
Its tubes are well rounded and hollow, cavernous, and have even been compared to Teahupoo and Pipe.
However, with the fame that the place gained, surfers from all over the world decided to go there, and due to the environmental risk to marine life (wolves and lions that exist on the island), surfing was prohibited.
But I anticipate, surfers have not given up on the dream of the biggest wave in Brazil.
Torres has dangerous neighborhoods
Anyone who thinks Torres is a totally safe place is wrong, of course it is very different from big cities or capitals like Porto Alegre.
We walk the streets with cell phones in hand, with a purse, I walk alone, I do my physical activities without fear. However, in the summer there are people from all parts of Brazil and even neighboring countries, which means that people with bad intentions also come.
For this reason, always be aware of your cell phone and purse.
There are some neighborhoods like Bairro Guarita, São Jorge, São Francisco where more complicated situations happen. The ideal is when in doubt, ask. Because in any of these neighborhoods there are far more good people than bad people.
