14 things to do in Las Vegas

Discover the 14 things to do in Las Vegas, suggestions from our experiences and what we love! Vegas is amazing!

Old Downtown Las Vegas, as it is also known, was the original site of the city, the gambling district and historic center of Las Vegas. It's the Central Business District, but it offers a lot for tourists to enjoy.

Visitors to DTLV used to be confined to the confines of covered Fremont St, but are now walking beyond Fremont to discover more.

We discovered many cool things to do in downtown Las Vegas, such as the Downtown East it's the container park , axe-throwing, buffets from US$ 12 and beers from US$ 2.50.

If you want to visit Vegas on the cheap, then don't miss downtown. Because it's so centralized, it has a more upbeat vibe than the sprawling Strip offers.

What to do on Fremont Street

While Old Town Las Vegas is so much more than Fremont Street, this street is the area you'll be walking in and out of the most. It's the downtown Las Vegas Strip.

We recommend, if you are visiting Las Vegas with children, take them off Fremont St at night , when Old Las Vegas transforms into world-class madness and gives a true insight into why it's called Sin City.

During the day, they'll enjoy street performers and live music as you walk.

Here are some of the attractions on Fremont Street.

Start with a walking tour of downtown Vegas

Why not start your things to do in downtown Las Vegas with an overview on a walking tour?

This was the tour that took me out of my mind when I first stepped onto Fremont St: “Wow, I think we better get out of here. Not sure about this place” , thinking…

Walking around Vegas is wonderful, during the day it is very hot, after all you are in the middle of the desert. During the night it's still hot, but it's easier to do your tour.

Right at the beginning of the city there is this sign, as a mandatory stop for your photographic record, usually full of people waiting for the moment to strike their pose! 🇧🇷

Fly over Fremont St on the Slotzilla Zip Line

Another great overview of Fremont St comes from above with the Slotzilla zip line.

If you don't want to take to the skies, you'll enjoy looking at the faces of joy and terror as they soar above you! This is a fantastic family attraction in downtown Las Vegas.

The zipline start is true Las Vegas style of a 12-story slot machine. Adventurous, but less tame than throwing yourself from the Stratosphere.

Enjoy the Fremont St Experience and Viva Vision light shows

Fremont Street Experiences is one of the most popular things to do in downtown Las Vegas and one of the best free things to do in Las Vegas.

It involves a picture of a light show and music (and lots of advertising) on the roof or Viva Vision, the world's largest video screen.

They often have live bands playing on one of the three stages on Fremont Street.

The light shows live vision they last approximately six minutes and take place every hour, usually starting at 6 pm, depending on the season.

Find your gold at the Golden Nugget Saloon

It doesn't get more Old Vegas than the Golden Nugget Saloon. It's on my list of places to stay in Vegas when we return.

Even if you don't stay here, it's an iconic Las Vegas casino to come and play the slot machines or check out the elaborate pool.

The Golden Nugget pool has the Tank, a 200,000-gallon aquarium in the middle of that waterslide that runs through it. It was named as one of the top 10 pools in the world by Travel & Leisure.

You MUST have money to play at hotel casinos ?? It's against the law to use credit cards, so make sure you have enough cash – or not – to keep your bank balance safe.

While you're here, be sure to check out the hand of faith , the largest gold nugget on public display in the world today, weighing in at 61 pounds, 11 ounces.

Non-hotel guests can swim in The Tank pool with a day pass which costs $35 per person (children 2 and under stay free). If you want to save money in Las Vegas, maybe looking is better!

Discover the Heart Attack Grill

This was the funniest, most bizarre thing we found in Vegas. Heart Attack Grill looks like a regular hamburger milkshake bar until you peek in the windows.

Customers are dressed in hospital gowns drinking intravenous drip wine , syringe injections and eating burgers heart attack style.

If you accept the challenge to eat the Octuple Bypass Burger – eight patties topped with forty slices of bacon and enough cheese for a heart attack – and fail the mission, you are rightfully taken to the spanking platform. and beaten hard by the waitress !!

I'm sure you'll be begging for it after the first bite of this burger. I'll take the IV line of red wine instead, please!

Not sure if it's a place you want to visit with kids.

Taste the local passion at Banger Brewing

Hidden among the flashing neon lights and kitsch vibe of Old Vegas is a modern invention – craft brewing.

Five local friends who worked together at the Bellagio came up with the idea to fill a gap in the liquor offerings in the world's highest city. Indulge in delicious, classy, locally brewed beer at Banger Brewing .

Enjoy Happy Hour at Oscar's Steakhouse

Oscar's Steakhouse, located in the Plaza hotel's iconic glass dome, has become a must-see in downtown Las Vegas due to its classic views of the lights of Fremont St. that were featured in movies like Casino.

What to do in Downtown Las Vegas besides Fremont St.

Below is a list of things you can do outside of Fremont.

Go Gangster at The Mob Museum

What a fantastic downtown Vegas attraction. It's important to learn about the stories behind the destinations and you know Vegas has a rich mobster history to tell.

I've always had a strange kind of fascination and fear of the Mafia. And with the Godfather, Donnie Brasco and Al Capone, what's not to be?

While Chicago tries to hide its checkered gangster past, Vegas is like, hey baby, that was part of growing up and look how we got through it.

Book a few hours at the Mob Museum. The museum has three floors of exhibits and stories, films and photos. A section will warn you of the horror to come.

Learn the stories behind Neon at The Neon Museum

Well, we all know that Las Vegas is the city of neon lights. The Neon Museum is a unique attraction in Las Vegas.

Since 1996, the Neon Museum has been collecting and displaying Las Vegas neon signs for historical and cultural enrichment. It's a cool way to preserve the city's unique history and stories. Explore the Fremont East District

Fremont East District is at the east end of Fremont St and is the vision of Tony Hsieh, the founder of Zappos.

He launched this Downtown Project as a $$ $350 million initiative in downtown Las Vegas to redevelop a section of downtown from the Fremont Street Experience to the Maryland Parkway along the Fremont Street corridor.

He decided he was going to bring 5,000 jobs to this area and revitalize it into a local neighborhood with cool restaurants, breweries and places to go out.

He certainly did.

It started with himself opening all the restaurants etc. and bringing the Zappos headquarters downtown, but hey, when you have the vision, you find the solution.
