While most people think of Florida as an expensive place to visit, there are actually a wide variety of Free Things to do in Florida that don't cost a penny.

In addition to the suggestions listed below by city, there are other Florida attractions — Jungle Island , Monkey Jungle and Flamingo Gardens. They generally offer free admission for moms and dads on Mother's Day and Father's Day and free admission on special days for residents of certain Florida cities (proper ID is required).

Additionally, service members and their families are admitted to nearly 100 of Florida's participating museums for free from Memorial Day through Labor Day through the Blue Star Museums program. 

In addition, many museums offer military personnel free entry at any time with proper identification.

Fort Lauderdale

Homestead National Parks Trolley

Ride the free Homestead National Parks Trolley any weekend from December to April for a tour of Everglades National Park or Biscayne National Park 

Tours are offered to residents and visitors. Entrance to the parks is waived for tram passengers!

The tram stop is located in Losner Park at 104 N. Krome Avenue in downtown Homestead. 

Free parking is available at the trolley stop which also connects to Miami-Dade bus routes.

Admittedly, getting to Key West and even staying there can be extremely expensive, but every penny saved on vacation counts.

Palm Beach County's oldest and largest public gardens are open to the public with free admission. The gardens are closed on most holidays.

Okeeheelee Natural Center

The Okeeheelee Nature Center features 2 miles of trails that wind through 90 acres of flat pine forests and swamps. 

Hands-on exhibits and animal encounters are featured.

Wynwood Walls

Wynwood is a popular Miami neighborhood with an artsy style. In the last 10 years, this neighborhood has transformed, trading its drug reputation for an artist's paradise. The Wynwood Walls is the perfect example of this transformation.

What used to be an industrial yard is now an open-air museum due to the work of Wynwood developer Tony Goldman. Artists from all over the world were invited to leave their mark on the walls in every way. 

The result was a colorful and eclectic mix of art in all forms and mediums. The walls are updated periodically, so chances are you won't see the same artists twice.

Museums in Miami

Free Museum Day is a popular event in many major cities, and Miami is no different. Take the opportunity to explore one of Miami's many museums on this day, such as the Miami Children's Museum , the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) or the Bass Museum of Art.

Miami Children's Museum offers admission free every third friday of the month from 4pm to 8pm MOCA offers free entry to the gallery at last Friday of each month from 7pm to 10pm Bass Museum of Art is free at last Sunday of each month and on the last Wednesday of the month from 6pm to 9pm (with special considerations around holidays).

Some museums in Miami are also always free, which means you can just show up! Of course, a suggested donation is requested, but you can decide what works for you. Try the Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum or the Institute of Contemporary Art.
