How to get a passport : Tips and step by step

I decided to write this post not just to clear all your doubts about the passport, be it common or emergency and tips to get "jump the queue" in scheduling but mainly to make an alert: GET YOUR PASSPORT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY TRIP PLANNED.

And I say this because the person traveling here has just gone through an almost perrengue and I almost had to cancel a trip simply because my passport is about to expire and the Federal Police have a big delay in the delivery of passports but I tell my drama (and also the solution) right down there!!

How to Get a Passport: Step by Step

Getting a passport is quite simple, if you are reading this post because it will be your first passport, know that the procedure requires nothing more than identification documents and the payment fee paid ( currently worth R$ 257, 25).

Passport application:

1 - The first thing to do is to enter the Federal Police website and in the tab of SERVICES Click in PASSPORT  and choose the option REQUIRE PASSPORT (for Brazilians).

2nd – Next fill the form Passport application – the form is basic and you must fill in your personal data, documents and contact email. Still on the form you can choose which city will be served, choose yours and click on generate protocol. That protocol number will be needed when scheduling your appointment.

3rd – Pay the issuance fee – after completing the form, the site will generate a GRU (Union collection guide) which must be paid within the expiry date (validity is about 20 days) and it should also be taken on the day of your appointment with the other documents! Do not forget !!

4th – Schedule the service – After paying the GRU, go back to Federal Police website and on the SERVICES tab, click on PASSPORT and choose the option SCHEDULE SERVICE – to make an appointment, you must have the protocol number, your social security number and the paid GRU at hand – choose the service center you prefer on the date and time available.

5th – Attendance at the Federal Police – attend the PF post at the place, day and time that you have scheduled with ALL THE DOCUMENTS in hand to enter the passport – fingerprints and photo are taken on the spot – the service is quick and only to check the documents, take the photo and fingerprints. You will leave there with a probable date for delivery of the passport.

6th passport delivery – on the stipulated date for you to pick up your passport, go to the PF post (can only be the person) with an identification document and make the withdrawal.

Done, simple as that.

Doubts:

• I don't have a trip planned, can i get the passport 🇧🇷 He must!! You do not need to have any trips booked or planned to get your passport

• Which validity of the passport? 10 years

• Need take photo 🇧🇷 No! You will take the photo at the service center on the day you bring the documents. Only children under 3 years old need to bring a 5×7 photo

• I already have a passport, can I renew it 🇧🇷 No ! There is no passport renewal and the procedure and documents are exactly the same for those who will get it for the first time

• My passport has expired but I have visas in it, will I be able to switch to the new passport? No ! Visas cannot be transferred and you must bring a new passport (to enter the country) and the old and expired passport (to present the Visa) when traveling.

How to get a passport: Skipping the queue at the appointment

It is very common for you not to find close dates to schedule your service, some posts only show dates for the following days, weeks and even months, this happens in times with many requests such as close to school holidays and also when there is any problem of delay in the PF (which happens constantly).

At this point, many resort to dispatchers that promise a appointment within 72 hours after GRU pays, how is this possible?

Federal Police website updates every day and usually from HOURLY the dates and times available for scheduling and it is very common (not to say it's true) that they always open vacancies for very close dates, like the next day, and what these dispatchers do is simply keep an eye on the website all day long to find a vacancy for you.

If you are in a hurry to make an appointment and you don't have time to stay several times a day on the PF website to check if a vacancy has opened nearby, the service that the dispatcher offers is very valid because you can bet that he will succeed! These services usually cost between R$190 and R$ 250 reais and several visa and passport application websites offer. I don't indicate any because I've never used it but if you're looking for this service, it doesn't hurt to consult the Complain Here website to check if the company is reliable. This service is simply to advance your appointment and there is nothing wrong or illegal about it.

If you have time or don't want to pay someone to do this, just go to the PF website every hour or a few times a day to check if a closer date has opened in your chosen location.

And how do I advance the appointment or skip the queue in the appointment (which is the more familiar term) 🇧🇷 Exactly the same way you would reschedule your appointment.

As soon as you pay your GRU, enter the website and schedule the service (as already explained) for the available date, after all, you need to hold a vacancy to be attended. After that, keep an eye out until you can find a closer date. He thought ?? It's just request rescheduling that you will automatically be transferred to the new requested date. just don't forget that it is only possible to reschedule ONCE within 30 days. If you've already rescheduled and then found an even closer date, forget it!! If you try to make a second reschedule, your CPF will be blocked for 30 days on the PF website and only after that period will you be able to reschedule.

How to get an emergency passport

O emergency passport is exactly for those people who cannot wait for the normal procedure of the common passport for some time. EMERGENCY reason , I'll start by saying that touring is not an emergency reason and it doesn't fit (same!!!) requirements for granting this type of passport.

the emergency passport out within 24 hours but you can leave even on the same day in 30 minutes, depending on your case. Any person who needs immediate travel for health reasons, of himself, his spouse or relative up to the second degree, in the event of natural catastrophes; armed conflicts, for the protection of their assets, for work needs, for humanitarian aid; interest of the Public Administration or another emergency situation whose postponement of the trip could cause serious inconvenience to the applicant. (losing $$ because you have to cancel your holiday trip does not qualify as a serious inconvenience) .

If you are in any of these situations, you are entitled to apply for an emergency passport, which has a higher rate of R$ 334.42  and deadline valid for only one year (despite the validity of one year, it is really only valid for you to embark on your emergency situation because not even with chip of security he comes ).

How do I apply for an emergency passport?

1st – Go to the Federal Police website and on the SERVICES tab, click on PASSPORT and choose the option EMERGENCY PASSPORT,

In some cities, such as Rio de Janeiro, the emergency passport can only be requested at the TOM JOBIM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT post (Galleon), that is, there is no point in going to one close to your residence because they will send you to the airport. How to get an emergency passport

EMERGENCY PASSPORT IS NOT THE SAME THING AS EMERGENCY PASSPORT!!! I confess that until I went through this situation I had never heard of an emergency passport and I had never read about it on any website or travel blog, not even on the Federal Police website, but it exists!!!!!! And it exists to save some lives like mine who couldn't wait for the regular passport but also didn't have any reason to fit the emergency passport.

Let's go... I believe that the emergency passport only exists in those times when the issuance of passports is delayed, whatever the reason, that is, it is not your fault that the passport will not be ready in time for you to travel. In these cases, the Federal Police asks for urgency in your passport and it will be ready in 48 hours🇧🇷 However, as with the emergency passport, each case is evaluated individually, but one thing is essential, a copy of the AIRLINE TICKET, if you haven't purchased tickets yet, don't even think about asking for urgency in your passport.

How do I apply for an emergency passport?

do exactly ALL the steps of who will get the common passport, including paying the GRU, scheduling and taking all the documents requested for a common passport, just don't forget to attach the AIRLINE TICKETS voucher, it does not count as a ticket reservation, it has to be the actual purchase.

As soon as you are assisted and before presenting the documents to apply for the common passport, ask what the date of delivery of the passport will be, if it is after the date of your scheduled trip, ASK FOR AN EMERGENCY PASSPORT. At the same time, you will be transferred to another employee who only handles these cases, will present the PURCHASED TICKETS and will tell you the reason for your trip. If the request is granted, you will fill out a form that will put your personal data, the reason for the request and will attach the copy of the tickets, a new GRU will also be generated at the same time, since you will have to pay the fee equal to the emergency passport, ie, R$ 334.42 and as you have already paid the common passport fee, you will only pay the difference (in the value of the current passport you will pay more R$77.17).  and return to your normal service. At the service, hand in the completed form and the difference from the GRU paid, otherwise, the procedure is exactly the same as for a regular passport. You will leave with the passport delivery protocol, which is usually within 48 hours.

PS. If you have already applied for the Ordinary Passport but need the Emergency Passport, unfortunately it will not be possible, as this passport can only be taken BEFORE entering the common.

PS2. The emergency passport is exactly the same as the common one, including the same validity of 10 years.

And I discovered the existence of this emergency passport exactly because I just NEEDED IT!!!!

Let's go to the drama hahahahahaha. My passport is due next month and I just didn't remember that!!! I should have asked for a new passport at the beginning of the year, regardless of the trip scheduled, planned or not, because I knew that I would go to Europe later this year to write articles for the blog, however, without a defined date and with that I was dragging my feet… in short… an incredible TAP promotion came out a few weeks ago with tickets starting from R$1500.00 for the European summer, what was the chance of me letting this slide? None !! I bought the tickets and the passport drama began hahahahaha. I would leave in exactly 25 days and I would still need to apply for a passport, pay the GRU and get an appointment. This first moment took exactly 3 days because I managed to anticipate my appointment. Once at the Federal Police, I was ready to use all my talent and ask for the love of God to give me a passport in less than 30 days hahahahaha. I already warn you that not with all the talent in the world I would have managed to get the regular passport in time, but since I had bought the tickets, the employee who helped me (very helpful, by the way) sent me to the urgent passport queue!! In line, I didn't really know what to expect, and I saw some people not having their order met (I don't know if due to lack of tickets) and others leaving happy and relieved, in my turn, I explained the reason for my trip, which was to produce content for the blog, I even attached proof that the blog was my authorship and that was it. Within 48 hours I received an email saying that my passport was ready and that I could pick it up the next day.

I can't say what the requirements are to get an emergency passport, I know that with the lack of paper at the Mint to make passports, it's really not possible to accept so many requests in a single day, so I'll repeat what I said there on top of this post giant, lol GET YOUR PASSPORT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY TRIP PLANNED, after all, no one wants to miss a trip because they didn't get their passport in time, right?!
