About Machu Picchu

Located in Peru, the empire that was once inhabited by the Incas, was one of the important urban centers (at that time).

It is enchanting to know this empire, built stones on stones and that still perpetuates its original characteristics, being today ruins.

The famous “lost city of the Incas” is considered one of the 7 Wonders of the World, one of the most visited places in Peru.

Describing the feeling of being in this place is very difficult, it really is one of the most incredible places on the planet.

Meaning of the name Machu Picchu

The name Machu Picchu means “old mountain”, built in the middle of the 15th century, with the Inca as its leader: pachacuti.

Where is Machu Picchu

Its ruins are located in Peru, on a beautiful mountain with an altitude of 2,400m.

The city at the foot of the mountain is called Aguas Calientes, this is where you will embark to Machu Picchu.

It takes approximately 30 minutes by bus or 2 hours if you prefer to walk.

There are approximately 10 kilometers between this small village and the archaeological site.

For those leaving Brazil, or another country, the closest airport is Lima, then take the bus, rent a car or hire a tourist agency.

Best time to visit Machu Picchu

The ideal is to choose between the low season (to get more affordable prices) and climate with little incidence of rain (because with rain, it makes walking difficult).

The months of May and September the volume of rain is low and you will be in the off-season.

The high season months are between June, July and August. The negative side is the excess of tourists on all sides and the higher prices.
