10 golden rules for visitors

know your limits

Dispose of garbage properly

Any waste is against the law, no matter how recyclable or compostable it is.

Remember that wildlife is attracted to the smell of food, but also to other items that retain odors, such as garbage, dishes, pots, stoves, refrigerators, and toiletries.

Never feed wild animals

Never feed wild animals, no matter how 'hungry' they look.

Don't assume that coolers, boxes, food and drink cans, tents, and soft-sided campers are bear-proof (they're not!).

Keep your pet on a leash at all times.

Bring your pet or service animal, but keep it on a leash or in proper confinement at all times (it's the law).

Give wildlife the space it needs

Keep the wild in the wild!

The chance to see wildlife in the wild is one of the most exciting things about national parks.

Avoid excessive noise

Mkeep the noise to a reasonable volume at campsites.

Make only marked paths

Stay on marked trails, do not want to explore where there are no guidelines, follow the maps of the parks.

Acampe apenas em áreas designadas. Use estradas e caminhos para viajar de e para as instalações do acampamento (abrigos para cozinhar, banheiros, etc.).

Don't take anything but pictures

Take photos and videos of amazing places and landscapes, but only from the safety of dry land.

Never try to take selfies with wildlife (animals).

Respect speed limits and drive carefully

Slow down to save lives.

Respect posted speed limits, follow directional signs and stay alert while driving.

Animals often cross the road and if you are inattentive, you could cause a serious accident.

Stay out of restricted areas

Know what's open and closed before you go to avoid disappointment.

When posted, area closures, warnings, and restrictions are necessary to increase public safety, protect sensitive species, and help maintain natural processes.

So make sure you don't go over the guidelines.

Areas may be temporarily closed to reduce human activity in key wildlife corridors, to conduct research or protect sensitive habitats, or for fire hazard, construction, maintenance, avalanche risks and more.
