This week a strong heat wave hits the US, an all-time heat record.
The heat, in addition to being unwell, can cause death, for this reason governments guide the population to avoid outdoor activities at times when the sun is strongest, the recommended time is in the early hours of the morning or late at night.
Temperatures are between 37.7º C and can reach 40.5º C, breaking the 1934 record of 40ºC.
The places hardest hit by the strong wave are the southern plains, including Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
How to stay cool without air conditioning
Below are tips on how to ease the thermal sensation:
- drink lots of water: stay hydrated;
- take a cold shower (helps lower body temperature);
- use wet and cold cloths on the neck and wrists;
- close the curtains and blinds to prevent external heat from entering the house;
- sleep with lighter, more breathable sheets;
- use an extractor fan in the kitchen and bathrooms to exchange the hot air inside the house;
- eat cold foods (ice cream, jellies, fruit salads, popsicles…);
Take care!
Are you going to travel in places with very hot warnings?! Take care and follow our tips! Hydrate yourself!!
