The restaurants in Marajó are all very simple but the taste of homemade food is delicious!!!

Where to eat on Marajó Island : Restaurants and what you can't miss

As the main attraction of the island is to enjoy the beaches, all my lunches were at beach huts… fish and shrimp fried at the moment, what's not to love?!! And as I spent the whole day on the street and always returned to the hotel at night, I preferred to have dinner every night at Casarão Amazônia, a restaurant at the hotel I stayed at and considered one of the best restaurants on the island (open to the public).

Turu – On the Andiroba Igarapé

What you can't miss on the island:

  • Fried fish fillet with vinaigrette and farofa (with yellow flour) – my favorite dish and I repeated it practically throughout my stay on the island!! Be sure to try the baby fillet, it's delicious !!!!
  • Buffalo cheese and butter – it's surreaaaaal good, and the best, super fresh!! Marajó has the largest herd of buffaloes in Brazil, with more than 600,000 animals.
  • buffalo fillet – I never thought of eating buffalo meat in my life but I tried it on the island and despite being a little dry it is very tasty.
  • Turu – I tried it and I only advise you to do the same if you like to try exotic things and it is zero fresh !!!! Turu is a mollusc, like a sea termite, very common in mangroves, which can be eaten raw, seasoned with lemon, cooked or in ceviche (which is how I tasted it).
  • regional juices – as in Belém, be sure to taste regional fruits such as taperebá, açaí, soursop, cupuaçu, bacuri, among others.

Praia do Pesqueiro – Soure

Praia do Pesqueiro is one of the main beaches in Soure and it was also one of my favorites, perfect to spend the whole day relaxing in the different hammocks that are spread there. At Pesqueiro I had lunch at Marajoara Restaurant, which is right on the beach.

Obviously I ordered my favorite dish on the island… for starter, shrimps fried in garlic and oil and fish bait, and for main, fried baby fillet with melted marajoara cheese, vinaigrette and farofa!! Delight !!

There are many restaurants right on the beach at Praia do Pesqueiro, practically next to each other, but I really liked Marajoara.

Praia do Céu – Soure

Another equally beautiful beach, but practically deserted, is Praia do Céu, which is in the middle of a community and is a little piece of paradise on Marajó Island. The beach has practically no support other than a restaurant on the sand, which was inaugurated a little over two years ago by the residents of the community.

Once again I ordered my favorite dish, which in this case is one of the few dishes on the menu, all fish-based. Fried puppy with rice, beans, farofa and vinaigrette! Very well served and very tasty. Simple food and homemade seasoning, all the best!!

Hotel Casarão Amazônia – Soure

O Hotel Casarão Amazônia, one of the best known on the island, it offers a restaurant for its guests and non-guests. The restaurant is simple, has a short menu and the food is delicious.

As the restaurant was located in the hotel where I stayed, I chose to have dinner there every night.

For starters, a super tasty and warm açaí bun and bacuri butter to go with it or a Turu ceviche. I already mentioned Turu up there, right?! Well, this was the restaurant that I tasted the delicacy but I just tasted it, I don't need such exotic things, lol.

A good choice was the gnocchi with pesto from Pará, which changes from the original is that it is made with Brazil nuts (although here at home I make pesto sauce with the oilseed I have in the pantry, including chestnuts, lol) . Or the Robalo à tucupi accompanied by breaded crab legs, which was also very good!

Joanes Beach – Salvaterra

In Salvaterra, I had lunch at Recanto dos Gaviões, on Joanes beach. The restaurant is located inside an inn with the same name, a super cute place with lots of trees, including the restaurant tables are outdoors under the trees.

As I was at a table with several people, we ended up opting for several dishes and tasted a little of each. Country chicken, buffalo steak with melted marajoara cheese and fries and a fish stew with shrimp. It's really hard not to approve of Pará's gastronomy.
