Nova Veneza is located in a small town south of Santa Catarina, more specifically in the micro-region of Criciúma, close to Serra Geral.
How to get to Nova Veneza – Santa Catarina
To get there, you can use the BR-101, with a dual carriageway that runs along the coast of Santa Catarina, and is about 32 km from New Venice.
Nova Veneza is located a short distance from the center of Criciúma, the nearest town, just 18 km away.
The state capital, Florianópolis, is located 224 km away,
History of New Venice
Italian colonization in Nova Veneza began in 1891, when the first families arrived in the region, their immigrants came from Bergamo, Venice and Bellumo. The settlers dedicated themselves mainly to agriculture, growing grapes, wheat, corn, beans and other agricultural products. Viticulture became an important activity in the region, and wine production gained prominence.
The city was officially founded in 1891, receiving the name Nova Veneza in honor of the hometown of Italian immigrants. Italian culture has been preserved over the years, and the Italian influence can be seen in the architecture, traditional festivals, cuisine and way of life of residents of Nova Veneza.
It was considered the first official Italian colony of Brazil Republic, and today its population has 95% of Italian descendants.
When to go to New Venice

Lucille gondola
The Lucille gondola is located in an artificial lake in Humberto Bortoluzzi square, in the center of Nova Veneza. This authentic vessel was donated by the Italian government and used to tour the canals of Venice in times past.
Saint Mark's Church
A beautiful church located in the center of the city, known for its imposing architecture and its frescoes. It is a place of great religious and cultural importance for the community.
Parque das Nações mill
One of the main postcards of Nova Veneza, the mill is a replica of a Dutch mill and was built to honor the immigrants who colonized the region. It offers panoramic views of the city and is a popular photo spot.
Humberto Bortoluzzi Square
A charming central square, surrounded by typical Italian buildings and adorned with fountains and manicured gardens. It's a nice place to walk around, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

Immigrant Museum
Located in the city center, right next to the mother church. The museum presents the history of Italian colonization in Nova Veneza, displaying photographs, documents, household items and other objects related to immigration and Italian culture.
It is considered one of the oldest buildings in the city, opened as a museum in 1991!

Waterfall on the Rio de la Plata

Valentine's Bridge (Ponte dei Morosi)
At the end of 2016, a charming metallic pedestrian bridge was inaugurated, located next to the road bridge. This beautiful bridge crosses a river of green water that cuts through the heart of the city.
On the railings at the ends of the bridge, it is common to find padlocks left by couples in love as a symbolic gesture of sealing their eternal love. These couples often throw the key into the river, symbolizing their union and the hope that their love will last forever.
