Great Salt Plains State Park
Situated on the shores of the scenic, shallow, salty lake of the same name, Great Salt Plains State Park is in northern Oklahoma.
Home to picture-perfect landscapes that you lose yourself in their infinity, it is named after the beautiful shimmering salt flats – all that remains of a vast prehistoric ocean.
In addition to dazzling the landscape, it is possible to go mountain biking and hiking, swimming and boating in the lake, as well as excellent fishing and bird watching.
From April to October, the place is full of people in search of the famous selenite crystals (you are lucky to find one).
Natural Falls State Park
If you like the climate of forests and a beautiful waterfall, this is the right park!
While the waterfall is certainly the state park's standout sight, it's also a great place to have a picnic or barbecue, with some visitors glamping for the night in one of the five cozy yurts.
In addition, there is a basketball and volleyball court on offer, as well as a scenic forest trail.

The fifth largest city in the state, Lawton sits among the endless plains and prairies of southwestern Oklahoma, with only the Wichita Mountains to the north breaking up the monotony.
Home to a handful of fascinating museums, it's the perfect place to visit if you want to learn more about the history and culture of the Great Plains.
At the Museum of the Great Plains, there are informative and interactive exhibitions about the people in the region, as well as archaeological finds, artifacts and a replica of a trading post.
In addition, the National Museum and Comanche Cultural Center highlights the rich heritage and history of the tribe, while the Fort Sill Museum it has many period buildings for visitors to peruse.
In addition to its fabulous public museums, visitors to Lawton can enjoy its plethora of parks and outdoor recreation areas.
While swimming and boating are popular pastimes, no visit is complete without spending time in the exquisite wilderness of Wichita's Wild Mountains.

Spanning the banks of the Oklahoma River, OKC (as it's often referred to) is one of the Great Plains' major metropolitan areas, and as such has plenty for visitors to see and do.
While many sights – such as the splendid Museum of Art and the moving Oklahoma City National Memorial – lie in the center of town, it's worth exploring further afield.
The Paseo, a former artists' colony, is home to many fine art galleries, Art Deco buildings and boutiques, and 'Little Saigon' is filled with excellent Asian restaurants and shops.
In addition to its myriad historical, cultural and architectural attractions, OKC also boasts the family-friendly Frontier Town, where thrilling rides and attractions take you back to the Wild West.
Parks and riverside walks abound in the city as well, with the impressive seven-story Myriad Botanical Gardens being just one of the center's many standout attractions.
Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum
On April 19, 1995, one of the biggest attacks in Oklahoma City took place, right in the center of its federal building, leaving 168 dead.
After the attack, the country made this memorial in honor of the victims, survivors, rescuers and everyone involved in that remarkable day.
National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum

This museum will take you back in time and tell you all about the history of those who populated Oklahoma.
Tulsa – The oil capital
It is the second largest city in the state and is located in northeast Oklahoma, between the Great Plains and the foothills of the Ozarks. Although it is home to many major energy and other companies, it also boasts superb architecture and interesting attractions.
Situated on the banks of the Arkansas River, its glittering, skyscraper-dotted downtown is not only home to gleaming corporate offices, but also an impressive array of elegant art deco buildings.
It also has a thriving arts and cultural scene for visitors to marvel at, with wonderful ballets, operas and theaters found alongside its two world-class art museums.
In addition, Tulsa offers many fine restaurants and shops, as well as a vibrant nightlife and plenty of live music.

Route 66
One of the most famous and revered roads in the USA, Route 66 winds from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California.
Passing through eight states, the 'Mother Road' covers 3,940 kilometers, with Oklahoma boasting one of its longest stretches.
Driving along Historic Route 66 has long been popular with visitors to the state, with big, lively cities like Tulsa and Oklahoma City to stop along the way.
Plus, it passes through some quintessential American landscapes, with cornfields and farms alongside rural and remote towns and villages.
Oklahoma also has several magnificent museums and monuments dedicated to the famous route for you to visit.
In Elk City, for example, there's the National Route 66 Museum, which looks at the people who lived, worked and traveled along the road.
In contrast, the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum de Clinton focuses on iconic images and ideas relating to the near-mythical Mother Road.
