West Hollywood (also known as WeHo) is a trendy, premium destination in Los Angeles and right in the middle of everything you could want to do on your Los Angeles trip. Home to the Sunset Strip, this is where you'll find film industry pioneers and leading LGBTQ+ rights activists.
With a unique and welcoming atmosphere, it's all about pioneering fashion, design and gastronomy here. Check out all my tips in the ultimate West Hollywood travel guide before planning your next trip to LA!
What to Expect in West Hollywood
West Hollywood invites style, creativity, expression and entertainment 24/7. In addition to the bold identity that WeHo has created for itself, it is warm and welcoming!
You'll find local businesses mixed with world-class urban architecture and, of course, top-notch shopping and dining.
From WeHo, you can access any part of Los Angeles – walk the Sunset Strip, stroll through the Melrose district or explore the arts at LACMA!
Cards + Cash : Credit cards are accepted everywhere.
Climate from west hollywood
Temperatures in West Hollywood are generally mild throughout the year.
Spring, summer and autumn are warm, dry, clear and bright, with the exception of a few cloudy “May Gray” and “June Gloom” days.
Getting Around West Hollywood
Located in Los Angeles, West Hollywood has TRAFFIC! City traffic tends to be congested, so it's best to stay away from wheels, but if necessary, hop off so you don't have to find parking.
WeHo is nominated for “Most Walkable City in California”, and its surrounding infrastructure makes getting around easy (although I can't say the same for the rest of LA)! Comprised of just 1.9 square miles, you'll find energy, style and endless fun around every corner at WeHo.
Car: In most places in California, public transport is not that good, so if you are spending a little time in LA I would recommend renting a car.
If you're staying downtown and are only in town for a few days, don't waste time and money trying to park in town!
Uber + Lyft: If you plan to stay at WeHo you don't need to rent a car, but be sure to download the Uber app as you will need to use a taxi. Bus service exists, but Uber is more efficient.
Subway: You can take the metro from WeHo to the city center, but avoid late night rides.
Where to Stay in West Hollywood
West Hollywood is a lively neighborhood in the greater Los Angeles area, so you'll find great accommodation options – from quaint bungalow rentals to first-class luxury hotels fit for celebrities.
Here are the best hotels around West Hollywood:
Petit Hermitage
Petit Ermitage is my favorite hotel! It's a charming boutique hotel with an intense La Vie Bohème feel. The interior is beautiful, elegant and cozy, and is designed to make you feel like you've been transported back in time.
With its rooftop pool and proximity to trendy Santa Monica Boulevard (walking distance!), what's not to love?
The London
If you really want to treat yourself, book a few nights of luxury at The London. This glamorous all-suite hotel will make you feel like a Hollywood star.
It offers spacious suites, most with a private terrace and privileged views of the elegant Hollywood Hills.
Mondrian Los Angeles
The sleek, modern Mondrian is right on the Sunset Strip, and it sure knows it. With pearly decor, a teak deck pool and the elegant restaurant – Ivory on Sunset – it dresses to impress.
Standard rooms, suites, apartments, penthouses galore, with prices starting at $ 369 per night.
Andaz West Hollywood
Andaz West Hollywood is a very stylish hotel, and the rooms are modern with fantastic views of the top.
They offer complimentary drinks, snacks and coffee in the room, and did I mention the beds?!
Where to eat in West Hollywood
Los Angeles has every type of cuisine you can imagine! Depending on what you're looking for, you may want to make dinner reservations in advance if the place is popular and usually busy.
I've rounded up my favorite cafes, restaurants and markets below – here are the best places to eat in West Hollywood!
Gracias Madre: is a local favorite – an elegant Mexican hot spot serving vegan 100% cuisine.
Cup of Farm Coffee: With three locations in Los Angeles, this is a great spot for your morning beverage – just look for the adorable yellow coffee truck! Excellent coffee, tea and breakfast options.
Coffee Gratitude: With a location in Hancock Park, Café Gratitude serves delicious and healthy sandwiches, wraps and more. It's perfect for lunch!
Hardware Laurel: Situated right on Santa Monica Blvd, this farm-to-table restaurant is located in a former hardware store serving modern New America fare and over-the-top cocktails.
In-n-out Burger: If you know me, you're obsessed. Nothing is as quintessentially Californian as the In-N-Out Burger. Grab a hamburger, hand-cut fries, and a thick shake. My request: An animal style grilled cheese with chopped peppers, yum!
Cecconi's: This modern restaurant serves classic artisanal Italian dishes such as orecchiette with clams, squid fritti and chicken paillard.
The Grilled Coffee: Huge portions, delicious food and fluffy pancakes! This is the perfect breakfast spot in West Hollywood – just make sure you get there early or be prepared to wait for a table!
