Monarch Airlines:
I always see people in travel discussion groups who are curious to know what it's like to fly with company X or Y, if it's worth the cost-benefit, upgrades, safety, comfort etc… so, I decided to make a review of the various companies that the us on trip already flew for you to know a little more about our experience in each one of them.
I recently flew by monarch, British company that I didn't know yet, had heard little about and didn't know much about what to expect.
THE Monarch Airlines exists since the 1960s and until a few years ago it made exclusively short low-cost flights, the famous ones, low cost. Its main routes are to countries in the Mediterranean, Cyprus, Spain and Portugal. Today, the fleet of planes has increased and they also make long flights to the USA, the Caribbean, India and Africa leaving from the airports of London (Luton and Gatwick), Manchester and Birmingham.
I have the habit of searching for airline tickets on the skyscanner and chose to fly by Monarch for the same reason I choose any other airline, price, and this was significantly different from the others.
Just like all low cost, the ticket price includes only one carry-on bag, which in the case of Monarch O Maximum weight is 10 kg. at this rate flyght only it is also not possible to do check in online and not choose a seat.
For those who need to check bags, which was my case, you can choose the Essential fares – entitled to dispatch 1 suitcase of 23kg + 1 carry-on bag of 10kg, check in online and choose a seat or even to Extra fee – entitled to dispatch 1 suitcase of 26 kg + 1 carry-on bag of 10 kg, check in online and choose a seat with more legroom.
The fares for my flight London/Gatwick vs Nice in mid-July, high season were from 59 pounds. In case I paid + 26.98 pounds in order to check in my 23kg suitcase, that is, I paid a total of 85.98 pounds. If you wanted to hire the Extra rate, I would add + 42.98 pounds.
Each airline has a policy, weight and measurement for the hand luggage that flies with us. THE Monach accept until two pieces, being a suitcase 56 x 40 x 25cm and another bag, backpack, bag… but the two together cannot exceed 10kg and they are pretty naughty about it. Oh, and they only accept just 1 bag of duty free as a third part.
My carry-on bag weighed exactly 10kg but I still had my bag in tow and I ended up having to check my hand luggage before boarding, no extra cost but a bag that!! 🇧🇷
On Board:
The plane that flew London/Gatwick vs Nice it is in that basic standard of every company low cost, I don't think I really have another word to describe it other than basic, lol. Reclining seats, normal legroom (I'm a small person, so I'm unlikely to have big problems with this, lol) , no meal included, no entertainment, but extremely punctual for takeoff. The flight took 3 hours to Nice International Airport, exactly within the estimated time.
And have you traveled through Monarch airlines 🇧🇷 What was your experience??
