Where is Monteverde?

Located in the extreme southwest of the state of Minas Gerais, Monte Verde is a district in the municipality of Camanducaia.

What to do in Monte Verde

There are many activities to do in Monte Verde, in addition to the trails below, I will list other options to have fun:

Zipline at Radical Farm

How about doing this venture?!

There are two zip lines measuring 70 meters high and 500 meters long, with a perfect view of the forest and the farm. To go up to the zip line it takes around 20 minutes of walking, but it's very easy, so you're already preparing the adrenaline 🙂

To make the jumps you need to pay an amount of R$100.00.

Riding an ATV by Monet Verde

Another fun adventure and this one on the ground, but with a lot of dirt road!

To rent an ATV, contact one of the tourist agencies in the city, or go to Fazenda Radical or other rural farms.

The price is R$150.00 per ATV or R$350.00 per UTV.

Falconry School

Have you ever thought about interacting with a bird of prey?!

This place is charming and if you have children, they will love it! Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The school has all the explanations about hawks or owls, you will learn more about these birds, you will be able to clear your doubts and of course interact with the animals (the best part of all).

The instructor will introduce you to the Harris's Hawk and he will fly towards you, landing on your arm.

Oschin Park in Monte Verde

Can you imagine that a small remaining piece of araucaria forests are here! Very close to the center and easily accessible.

Llama in Monte Verde

You can hike through the park, get to know the forests, birds and other local animals, even llamas and if you have children, there is a playground for them to have fun or lie in a hammock and rest.

To access the park, you must pay R$40.00 for people over 12 years old or R$ 25.00 from 3 to 11 years old.

To enter the bar, appropriate clothing is provided to face the -19ºC. The entire bar is made of ice, even the seats.

Ticket prices vary between: R$70.00 (if you want to have 2 drinks) or R$60.00 (with a drink), for children from 4 to 10 years old the value is R$30.00.

Chocolate factories: Gressoney and Monte Verde

A beautiful winter destination calls for delicious hot chocolate or lots of sweets with lots of chocolate, and how about fondue, petit gateau, brownie and much more.

You will be able to visit the Chocolateria Monte Vere factory and see all the processing of the delicacies, in addition to gaining many little samples and delighting yourself along the way.

Tip: at the Gressoney shop try Primrose. It is a homemade sweet, similar to alfajor with honey bread.

Stroll along the main avenue

Strolling through the city center and getting to know the shop windows is a delight, buying souvenirs from the city, tasting the cuisine and having fun in a little bar.

Discover also Unger's Pottery House Art Gallery with 3,000 square meters and lots of artwork.

Go to the Monte Verde Distillery, discover the artisanal cachaça factory and take it home as a souvenir 🙂

Trails in Monte Verde

Monte Verde trail lovers have several options. The ideal is always to have a little physical preparation to guarantee the walk and enjoy the whole route without pain or discomfort, in addition to always having good options for shoes and clothes suitable for the practice.

Round Stone Trail

One of the best known trails in Monte Verde, with its 926 meters in length and with a beautiful lookout to dazzle the landscape and of course: take lots of pictures.

Its degree of difficulty is considered moderate, the trail is well signposted and easily accessible, with a 3.7km walk or car journey through the city center.

Broken Stone Trail

Located a little further ahead of the Round Stone Trail, it can be accessed from the same place.

On this trail, depending on the day, it is possible to dazzle the famous Pedra do Baú.

Plateau trail

It is in the opposite direction to Pedra Partida. The route is longer but without difficulties on its route.

Pico Selado trail

It belongs to Serra da Mantiqueira, in one of its beautiful peaks (right on the border between states).

Its altitude is 2,082m, so you already know this route must be well planned and with a lot of training 🙂 But the view is really worth it!

Bishop's Hat Trail

It is considered the easiest trail of all previously mentioned. That's because it doesn't even have almost altimetry and the path of the trail goes to the base of Pedra do Chapéu do Bispo.

If you want to climb to the top of the peak, there won't be any difficulties either 🙂

Peak of Onça

This trail is considered moderate. It's 11km round trip, lasting up to 4 hours, but depending on your pace it could take up to 2 hours.

Most of the route is in dense forest, but don't worry, it is well signposted!

Monte Verde Restaurants

The cuisine from Minas Gerais is no doubt exemplary! At any time of the year you can try a little of everything and still be in doubt as to which dish would be the best.

A nice place to try draft beer with snacks is at the restaurant Paulo das Troutas.

If you want to try something more sophisticated, like risottos, pastas and other delicacies, go to Villa Donna Bistro.

If you like Italian food, the restaurant Portale di Napoli in addition to being a totally stylish space, the food is wonderful.

And to top it all off, how about trying a fondue in fondue house, with a huge variety of sauces and meats in addition to melted chocolates and lots of berries.
