Urca Bar
One of the most carioca programs is to watch the sunset on wall of Urca (neighborhood in the south of the city) also not for less, the sunset it's amazing seen from the shores of Guanabara Bay and the wall is even more pleasant with a good cold beer (from a bottle!) and a delicious codfish cake (yes, it's very easy to be happy in Rio <3).
THE wall of Urca It is point super disputed in the carioca summer and one of the most democratic, it ranges from residents of the neighborhood, a lot of tourists, the people who just stop there to enjoy the end of the day and have a cold one after a day of work, to those who love a after-beach weekends and even those who combine the spectacle of the sunset with a dinner.
And it's no wonder that the busiest part of the wall is exactly in front of the super traditional Urca Bar, open since 1939 and which has become a cultural heritage in Rio de Janeiro since 2012. Seu Gomes, brought the delights of Portuguese cuisine and added to the typical carioca bohemia and thus Bar Urca is a success until today.
The ground floor, where the bar is, has no tables or chairs, after all, the wall is right there in front. Orders are placed directly at the counter and on weekends when there is a greater movement, the tip is to place your orders at once and keep the chips in hand, because the lines are usually long. The most popular snacks are the codfish balls, fried sardines, shrimp and crab cakes and the shrimp patty?? Delicious!!
Upstairs is the restaurant and amazingly, the #nosnatrip I didn't know until the other day!! The environment is small but super pleasant and has that beautiful view seen from the wall below. The menu is a la carte and the house specialty is Portuguese cuisine and seafood. By the way, be sure to ask for the shrimp boba, One of the best I've ever eaten in my life!!
I met Bar Urca restaurant with a group of bloggers here in Rio and besides the silly that was fantastic, we also asked for a shrimp in moranga and a baiana fish fillet moqueca (with that farofinha dende) huuummmm too good!! I was surprised by the taste of the food and the portions are very generous.
I really want to go back to the restaurant to taste the authentic portuguese cod now!!! For those who are not a fan of seafood, no problem, the menu is extensive and has a wide variety of meats, poultry, risottos and salads.
Oh and for those who don't drink beer ( I!!!!) the caipirinhas are great too, the one from star fruit it's top. And does anyone love a dessert?? So, don't forget to ask for the Brownie with ice cream!!
Tip: On weekends, the restaurant is always full at lunchtime, so arrive early and put your name in the queue while enjoying a snack and toasting to the beautiful view of the mureta da urca.
O Urca neighborhood located in the south of the city (between Botafogo and Copacabana) and as it is relatively isolated, it seems that you are leaving Rio de Janeiro, there you don't see that hustle or bustle of the city, it's a residential neighborhood, with many houses and super quiet. THE easiest way to get there is by car or uber, if you prefer to go from bus there is the line 107 (Central X Urca) or the circular 581 (Leblon X Cosme Velho) or even the circular 513 that leaves the Botafogo subway.
Bar Urca is located at Rua Cândido Gafree, 205 – Urca, RJ
