It was a great and pleasant surprise that I had in Aracaju, O Museum of Sergipe People It was one of the most interesting I have ever been in my life!! No, I'm not exaggerating and yes, he is my favorite in Brazil ( excuse Mac and Oscar Niemayer hahahaha).
O Museum of Sergipe People It is fully interactive and mixes sensory instruments with various elements of Sergipe culture, which makes the visit much more attractive, especially for the little ones and even for those who are not passionate about museums.
Museum in Aracaju : Don't miss out
The Museum is located in the Historic Center of the city, close to the Municipal Market, has free admission and is located in a beautiful historic building that has been restored to house the various temporary and permanent exhibitions that the museum offers.
Even before entering, still in the museum parking lot, it is possible to come across artistic painted ceramic panels by Sergipe plastic artists. already in foyer, which is the entrance and main circulation area of the museum, we can already observe the mixture of history and modernity that we will see below and in the environment we can also see some exhibitions by local artists.
Right in the center of the Museum is the main hall, with the map of sergipe and an audio with testimonies from residents of each territory of the state that shows the difference in intonation and slang of each place, I found it very interesting. Speaking of slang, in the same salon it is possible learn key words and expressions from Sergipe people and it is impressive how this Brazil is sooo different from one region to another, they had many words that I had never heard before and I was delighted with all this diversity.
The net on top of the map is called jereré, it is a typical fishing net with various objects of the local culture “fished”.
Around the atrium are the various exhibition halls that are fully interactive and I'll try to show you a little bit of how cool they are.
In one of the rooms is the figure of the Josevende, which is a virtual fairground, typical of fairs in Sergipe and the coolest thing is that you interact with it. In this same scenario, we find several typical objects such as handicrafts, cachaças, peppers, spices, toys, leather objects inspired by the cangaço … a super immersion in the local culture.
Two other very interesting rooms are the "Our Squares" where it is possible to walk through the squares of Aracaju through the legendary carousel of Tobias… I thought the most beautiful thing was this scenery of the carousel in the middle of all the squares in the state. And also the room “Our Dishes” where in a very fun way we learn more about the ingredients that are made in typical foods. In the same environment, there is still a game to learn more about livestock and agriculture, where you can plant, harvest and sell food and animals yourself.
I'm not going to show and talk about all the exhibition halls of this museum in Aracaju so as not to lose the fun but finally I'm going to show my favorite, "Our Beds" it is a tunnel with 360º projection that presents the fauna and flora of the state, you sit in a little boat and go through the entire ecosystem of Sergipe and it is impressive the feeling that it gives that the boat is really moving. Simply incredible !!
The Sergipano People Museum integrates technology, interaction, history and a lot of local culture shown in a super light and fun way that is really worth knowing.
The Museum is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday, Sunday and holidays from 10 am to 3 pm. Entry is free!
