LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade – São Paulo

In this year 2023, the Parade will take place on June 11, it is considered the largest LGBT+ Parade in the world! It is in its 27th edition with the theme: Social Policies for LGBT+ “we want it in full and not in half”.

The gathering takes place on Avenida Paulista, starting at 10 am.

Parada SP is a social manifestation that claims rights, promotes visibility and celebrates diversity, with political and affirmative actions.

The first edition of the São Paulo LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade took place in 1997, with the participation of around 2,000 people. Since then, the event has grown immensely to become a celebration with an incredible audience of 4 million people.

This grandiosity made the São Paulo LGBTQIA+ Pride Parade enter the Guinness Book as the biggest event of its kind in the world. It is a powerful demonstration of the support and unity of the LGBTQIA+ community and all its allies.

If you can't attend the event in person, don't worry. For the sixth consecutive year, the  NYC Pride March  will be transmitted by ABC-7.

THE pride celebration will be in the days June 24th and 25th of 2023. Pride Parade it will be on June 25th, walking down Market Street from the Embarcadero to the Celebration at Civic Center.

This year's theme is " Looking back and moving forward” .

Toronto's Pride Parade

The parade will take place on the 25th of June at 2pm, starting at Church and Bloor Street and ending at Yonge-Dundas Square.

Toronto Gay Pride is one of the world's largest celebrations of LGBTQIA+ pride and has established itself as a significant artistic and cultural event in Canada.

Since its inception in 1981, Toronto Gay Pride has evolved into a giant party in the city, attracting festival enthusiasts from far and wide. After the events known as “Operation Soap” in 1981, which impacted the LGBTQIA+ community in Toronto, a large demonstration took place the next day at the intersection of Yonge and Wellesley streets, resulting in the complete closure of the streets.

Toronto Gay Pride is a time of celebration, expression and activism where the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies come together to show their support, love and solidarity. Why is June LGBT Pride Month?

This date was chosen because of the events that took place on that same day in 1969, known as the Stonewall Riots.

The Stonewall Riots were a series of events that took place at a bar called the Stonewall Inn located in New York City. At that time, homosexuality was considered illegal and many LGBTQIA+ people suffered discrimination and persecution.

On June 28, 1969, things came to a head. People who frequented the Stonewall Inn, tired of being treated unfairly, decided to rebel against a new police invasion. This resistance turned into several days of protests and clashes.

These Stonewall events marked a pivotal moment in the history of the struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights. They were a turning point, inspiring the rise of activist groups and movements that sought equality and respect for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Since then, International LGBTQIA+ Pride Day has been celebrated to remember and honor these significant events. It is a moment to recognize the courage of those who fought for equal rights, promote the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community and reinforce respect and inclusion.

Who created the LGBT?

The abbreviation “LGBT” was created collectively by the LGBTQIA+ community over time to represent different gender identities and sexual orientations. There is not a single person that can be attributed to the creation of the acronym as a whole.
