Read carefully, save the information and enjoy the trip!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Metro_de_Nova_Iorque\"><\/span>New York Subway<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the cities where I used the subway, New York was the one that I found the most complicated. There are many lines, many directions and many stops! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main difference between the subway in New York and all the others I&#039;ve used is that the one in New York doesn&#039;t have practical connections like the subways in the main cities of the world like Paris and Milan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O <strong>positive point<\/strong> of this system is that the lines are straighter and more direct and therefore end up saving time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>already the <strong>negative point<\/strong> is that there is not always a direct line for short trips and you end up wasting a lot of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other than that, the trains are clean, spacious and super practical (and fast!). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The stations are very different from each other: there are small, medium and large ones; dirty and clean; safe and not so safe\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130602190734im_\/http:\/\/www.viagemeviagens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/52.jpg\" alt=\"NYC subway\" width=\"522\" height=\"348\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>However, understanding the New York subway is essential to enjoy the city better! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130602190734im_\/http:\/\/www.viagemeviagens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/19.jpg\" alt=\"NYC subway map\" width=\"510\" height=\"765\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"586\" height=\"801\" src=\"https:\/\/wenttrip.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/d8912602298364d67d5897320b185cd1.jpg\" alt=\"NYC subway map\" class=\"wp-image-5583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wenttrip.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/d8912602298364d67d5897320b185cd1.jpg 586w, https:\/\/wenttrip.com.br\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/d8912602298364d67d5897320b185cd1-219x300.jpg 219w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_usar_o_metro_de_Nova_Iorque\"><\/span>How to use the New York subway <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To do well, you need to pay attention to a few things like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Planeje_seu_roteiro\"><\/span><strong>Plan your itinerary<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Don&#039;t leave it to choose the line you&#039;ll take when you&#039;re already inside the station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being located very close to each other, the stations are not interconnected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So make sure you&#039;re using the right input. Many stations have different entrances for each direction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The direction is announced both at the station entrance and at the turnstile door. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you pass the turnstile in the wrong direction <strong>there are two options: <\/strong>either you take the train and get off at a station where there is a connection with others or get off and pay another ticket to enter in the right direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-black-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><em>Remember: each line has a specific color!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130602190734im_\/http:\/\/www.viagemeviagens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/21.jpg\" alt=\"How to use the New York subway\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Significados_das_cores_dos_metros_de_NYC\"><\/span>NYC subway color meanings<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The lines named by numbers have straight strokes and stick to one side of the island. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"COR_VERMELHA_%E2%80%93_metro_de_NYC\"><\/span><strong>RED COLOR<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>NYC Subway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f8dfdf\">On line 1 there are several stations, while lines 2 and 3 stop at fewer (faster!) stations. <em>Choose these lines to see:<\/em> Tribeca, Village, Meatpacking District, Times Square, Broadway and Lincoln Center (Columbus Circle).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-color wp-block-heading\" style=\"color:#19c486\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"COR_VERDE_%E2%80%93_metro_de_NYC\"><\/span><strong>GREEN COLOR<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>NYC Subway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#d2f8ee\">On line 6 there are several stations and lines 4 and 5 stop at fewer (faster!) stations. <em>Choose these lines to see:<\/em> Lower East Side, Bowery\/Noho, Union Square, Grand Central Station and the Metropolitan, Guggenheim and Whitney museums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Lines named by letters crisscross the island and sometimes allow for line switching.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"COR_AZUL_%E2%80%93_metro_de_NYC\"><\/span><strong>BLUE COLOR <\/strong>\u2013 <strong>NYC Subway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cde7fb\"><em>Use line C for stops:<\/em> Soho, Broadway, Dakota and the Museum of Natural History. Line E starts at Ground Zero and follows A and C. <em>Use lines A and C to:<\/em>\u00a0 Soho, Village, Meatpacking, Chelsea, around Times Square and Broadway<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-luminous-vivid-orange-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"COR_LARANJA_%E2%80%93_metro_de_NYC\"><\/span><strong>ORANGE COLOR<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>NYC Subway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffd5b5\">Choose lines B, D and F <em>to see:<\/em> Village, Empire State, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center\/Top of the Rock.\u00a0<em>Choose line B to see:<\/em> Dakota and the Museum of Natural History; <em>and line D for (express):\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0west side of Central Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-luminous-vivid-amber-color has-text-color wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"COR_AMARELA_%E2%80%93_metro_de_NYC\"><\/span><strong>YELLOW COLOR <\/strong>\u2013 <strong>NYC Subway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffedbd\">The N, Q, R and W lines come from the south and follow Broadway to Times Square.\u00a0<em>The Q (express) line goes to: Soho (Canal St.), Times Square and Central Park South.<\/em> <em>The others go to: Washington Square and Herald Square.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Como_comprar_os_Tickets_do_metro_de_NYC\"><\/span><strong>How to buy tickets<\/strong> <strong>of<\/strong> <strong>NYC Subway<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The machines that sell the tickets are simple: First press \u201cstart\u201d and choose English or Spanish. then choose<strong> MetroCard<\/strong> (free magnetic card). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can choose between \u201cPay-per-ride\u201d and \u201cUnlimited rides\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&quot;<strong>pay per ride<\/strong>\u201d you charge an amount between US$ 4 and US$ 80 (with each trip your magnetic card will be debited at US$ 2.25). If the credit runs out, just recharge it again on the same machines (<em>the place to place the card only opens after you press \u201cStart\u201d on the screen<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>Tip:<\/strong><\/em> The alternative &quot;<strong>unlimited rides<\/strong>\u201d is for those who will stay for a week or will ride the subway a lot (US$ 27 and allows unlimited travel for seven consecutive days).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important:<\/strong> these values may have changed since our last trip, so don&#039;t take them as a basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130602190734im_\/http:\/\/www.viagemeviagens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/IMG_3853-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"NYC Subway\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20130602190734im_\/http:\/\/www.viagemeviagens.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/43.jpg\" alt=\"NYC subway metrocard\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use cash (maximum change of US$ 6) or credit card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Tip:<\/em> <\/strong>Sometimes the machine will ask for the \u201czip code\u201d.
